G'day all
I have just upgraded our network PCs (400 users over 6 sites) from Windows
2000 to XP Pro.
All the DCs are 2003. All is patched up to date. The problem I'm having is
that file share
access is really slow. I've run traffic monitors, checked switch settings
etc. etc. but there
doesn't seem to be anything wrong at all with the network.
It is only the file access that is slow (copy, open, save). Printing,
internet, sybase applications
,emal etc are all fine.
I'm at a loss. Looking for some suggestions please.

Just out of curiosity is DNS set up
correctly such that XPhas the internal IP of the server ?

XP is very reliant on DNS and you WILL experience slowdowns if it has to
fall back to NetBIOS (NetBT) to getname resolution. Let me say this, the
moment it finds the name and "creates" the flow to the share then it is
ok . I believe the time you feeling is the lookup time and negotiating time.
