Help Removing: Right-Click | Add files to library...

V

~Von

I have been spending some time today weeding out the programs that add
themselves to the right-click menu. One that I am having trouble
tracking down is when I right click on a folder or drive I have the
option to "Add files to library..." and there is a strange little icon
next to it that I do not recognize. If selected, I get a dialog box
that looks like this:

Add File(s) to MMC Library
Media files to scan for:
[x] Movie Scan (button)
[x] Music Cancel (button)
[x] Picture

X Include subfolders

If I select scan, I hear the drive spin up however I am not clear what
"library" these are being added to. I went into winamp, musicmatch,
itunes, and windows media player and none of the files are listed in
any of these players (there was a mix of jpg and mpg files on the drive
scanned). Can anyone tell me what program has added this to my
system's (xp pro sp2 with all of the current updates from windows
update) right-click menu?

Many thanks!

Hi,

Can't tell you what added it, but you may be able to track it down by
examining the registry key(s) that house it. It should be under one of
these:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\OpenWithList
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Background\shellex
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shell
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers

Please be cautious when working in the system registry.

Rick,

Thank you for the suggestion. I found a "Library" entry in
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers. I exported that entry
then deleted it. With that, the "Add files to library..." is now gone from
my right-click menu. Still not sure what program put it there, however if i
ever need it, i can import it back.

Thx again!
