Help recovering files

I thought I had saved the files, but it turns out i didn't. Did a complete
re-install of XPxp2 (deleted partitions, created a new partition, all that).
Used a very low level data recovery and it didn't show the files.

Any thoughts on what might be better to use?

You other resort is to send it to a data recovery service. They are very
expensive.

If you have a backup, now would be the time to restore them. If you don't
have a backup, they're just gone. It's a hard lesson to be sure. You
should strongly consider purchasing an external hard disk and developing a
backup strategy before something else causes catastrophic data loss again
in the future.
