Help please

I have just received my laptop which was a present and about 6 months old
and had Windows XP on it, back from the police after we had a break in, I
am a OAP on a limited income. I have tried to put windows xp back on but it
will not work at all and it says that setup files are missing. How can I
get it working again? What version of xp would I have to get or is there a
simpler way

I am asking for help so as I can get my late wifes photo's on the laptop.

The maker of your system will have some disks available to reinstall your
system to the 'Factory defaults" it had when you first started it. They will
have a web site with info on that.
