In the middle of using Windows Explorer, it will shut down and redraw the
desktop. In the process many items on the tool bar disappear, not to
mention how irritating it is to be in the middle of a file search or
browsing hard disks and programs only to have Windows Explorer crash and
burn.

Has anyone seen this problem? If so, is there any known solution?

Thanks in advance....

How would this fix the problem?
I have the same problem and i no how frustrated this guy feels.
I was told i had to run windows repair

All folders or just one/some?

I had a similar problem when I set up a shortcut to a shared folder on the
desktop. Browsing that folder via the shortcut would cause Explorer to crash
at random but it worked fine if I went in via My Computer\C: and drilling
down. Solution was to delete and recreate the short cut a different way.
