Help please reassign "C" to OS partition

Not sure how it happened but my Windows XP partition was
assigned as the "H" drive
I have 2 HD's, Here is my setup
Master 1st partition"H"(primary Partition-NTFS) XP OS
Master 2nd partition"I"(primary partition-NTFS) for Data
Slave 1st partition "S" (Logical Drive-FAT32) Swap File
Slave 2nd partition "J" (primary partition-FAT32) for Data

I have to do a clean Install of Windows in a few days when
I get a new Motherboard and I want to make that 1st
partition "C" again when I do so....how would I go about
that or will it just assign "C" to it automatically when I
install Windows?

What has the C letter now? If nothing does, delete the exisiting Windows
partition and reformat it, that should give it the C letter.

No there is no Drive C at all right now but than again
there wasn't one the last time I formated that partition
and Installed Windows either??
So do I just boot up with the Windows CD and choose to
format that partition and then Install?

With the new motherboard, boot to WXP CDROM and proceed for clean
install, then on the way delete the first partition of the HD connected
to the Primary/Master channel or where presently WXP is installed.
Specify the unallocated area created thereby as the partition to which
WXP is installed. This way WXP drive becomes C:
If you format not delete the partition as above, the drive letter will
stays unchanged.

It most probably arose because you have a Zip drive that was connected
at the time. Make sure that this is not connected. Similarly other
external drives, such as any USB ones. Then Boot the CD, enter Setup,
and in New INstall, when it asks you where, Hit ESC, highlight the
currently used partition and delete it.

Just to be quite sure, I would then reboot, and at the same place you
can then select the free space that has resulted, and Create a new RAW
partition, selecting it and proceeding for it to be formatted at the
next stage
