I have a Compaq Presario 6000 and I'm running a Windows XP on it. I believe
my sound is SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio. I've not had problems before
with my sound, but about a month ago, whenever I put the computer into sleep
mode, when I would wake it back up there would be no sound. I'd have to
restart the computer to get the sound back.
Now I have no sound, even when I restart it. I have no sound from
anything...CD's, iTunes, websites, etc. Not even upon start up, I don't get
the Windows sound anymore.
I ran through the troubleshooter that XP has (I did not mess with the BIOS,
nor did I uninstall the driver or roll it back....the instructions said to
know what you were doing for the BIOS and were unclear on how to do the other
for uninstall and roll back so I didn't want to mess with it).
I have 3 CD's to restore my computer. The first is called System Restore,
the second is Compaq Operating System CD..Windows XP Home, and the last is
Restore Supplemental Software..Microsoft Applications. I'd prefer to not
have to go the Restore route if I don't have to.
Any help you can give on how to get my sound back would be greatly
appreciated. The only thing I can think of that has been added to the
computer lately is a game call World of Warcraft. We just followed the
instructions for loading that. I've checked all the hook-ups for my monitor
and speakers (they are in the monitor) and all are connected.
I don't know what other information you would need to help me. Please let
me know.
Thank you, in advance, for any help you can give!
Happy New Year!
