no sound

hi folks, i recently restored my pc, but have now lost all sound, i
downloaded updated drivers but when wizzard tries to implement them i get
error message no sound devices.

Also download you motherboard chipset drivers. If you have sound
built-in on your motherboard, the chipset drivers should tell the XP
how to locate the sound part.

You need to install original drivers before you can update them . You
should have had a driver cd with the system when you bought it .

If they bought almost any Big Name Brand, other than Dell, they would not get any disks, much less a
drivers disk.

When you say "restored" do you mean you used System Restore to revert to an
earlier date/time? If so, did your sound work before that action?Perhaps you
could try restoring it to an even earlier point or, conversely, undo the
restore you already did.
If by "restore" you meant reinstalling Windows from scratch, the most likely
cause of your problem is the driver. I know you say you downloaded updated
drivers but it's very easy to download the wrong driver for your sound
device (I speak from experience!)
Anyway, my two cents worth. Hope it helps.
