HELP!! Please Help!!Browsing problems after Adding Xp pro workstation

I was called onto a job site today to add a xp workstation
to an esiting workgroup. The other workstations are
connected onto a 8 port linksys router.. which in turn is
connected to a dsl router. Anyway I set the workgroup to
the correct name, gave it a computer name and set up the
adapter exactly like the other xp pro machines on this
small network. I created a local user in the admin group
with no password like the other workstations are set up.
(dhcp, defualt netbios over tcp/ip setting) I also set up
the same user on the 2000 server which is basically just a
file server. everything works.. I can get onto the
internet and ping all the other workstations when I use
their ip address (and server) but I cannot browse
microsoft network or ping using the machine names. The
other computers can find this new workstation but I get a
error saying network path cannot be found if I try and
connect to it. Also the new workstation only sees itself.
I really need some help on this my company charges clients
$80 an hr for my help and I feel like a moron. I have
never had a problem like this. Any ideas? Thanks!!

On the new XP client try turning off the Computer Browser service.

Hi Kevin,
Try this:
Open network and dialup connections from control panel.
double click on make new connection. go through this the
same as always, but select "accept incoming connections".
don't worry about the "other devices" it allows you to
connet, just go on through to "finish". This should do it.
XP sometimes won't talk to anyone with out it.

good luck!

Neither of these two suggestions worked.... I tried using
nbtstat to receive a new list and I cannot get any netbois
names to stay in cache. I plugged in the old computer
running NT and it instantly worked fine. Any other
suggestions? Why would this happen? I even logged in as
the same administrator and password as the admin account
on a server andd still no dice.

well, I had to install netbeui, and ipx/spx for it to
work. What I don't understand is why it wouldn't work with
netbios over tcp/ip. Two or three other xp clients are
pros a few more home, 2 98 and one w2k server..I tried
every work around concerning enabling, disabling browser
service as well as setting master browser registry setting
to Both True and false. I even fdisked the machine and
completely reinstalled to os... what the f--k!!!
