My wife's computer won't shut down at night. Instead she receives a
message that she is receiving 3 updates and that the computer will shut
down when these have been downloaded and installed. BUT after an entire
night waiting they are still not downloaded. We're on DSL and there is
no way they can be that large. She has SP 2 on her computer.

I went into the security and turned off the auto update feature but to
no avail. Any ideas would be appreciated.

We have the same problem on a laptop at the community centre where I work, so
if anyone knows the solution I'd like to know as well. Can shut the computer
down by holding the power button and it restarts OK

Turn off automatic updates, then go to the windows update site and
download them manually.
