Im just finishing off a new build, after finally selecting and ordering all the parts! I decided on the E8400 cpu, after reading alot of positive posts on here about it being a fast cpu and good overclocker.

Its been a while since i last did any overclocking on my other rig! Could anyone give my any settings/advice for a good stable overclock that could be used 24/7? (I do alot of gaming)

I was hoping to get at least 4Ghz (heard of people with that on air)?

My rig specs are;

CPU = Core 2 Duo E8400 LGA775 'Wolfdale' 3.00GHz
Memory = DDR2 OCZ 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-8500C5 1066MHz Reaper HPC
Mobo = Asus P5Q Deluxe Intel P45
GPU = Leadtek GeForce GTX 280 1024MB
HDD = Samsung SpinPoint F1 750GB SATA-II 32MB Cache
Cooling = Swiftech H2O-220 Compact (for cpu only - air for rest of case)
Case = Coolermaster RC-1100 Cosmos S
OS = Windows XP Pro SP3 (32bit)

Any help/advice welcome :?:

Can't help on the overclocking questions..But a full 1000Mhz overclock from 3Ghz to 4Ghz seems a little optomistic to me on air..

Are you sure those figures are correct..:p If thats right then that chip is a beast and well worth the money you paid for it..:nod:

No way are you going to get 100% extra performance out of your CPU by overclocking it.
The CPU would weld its self to the Motherboard!
Ypu could probably get a 3GHz to 3.4GHz but anything higher will make the CPU unstable.
And the possibility of damage to the Motherboard is increased!
