Help: Outlook 2007 and attachments - slow performance

V

Vulcan

Anyone else seeing a problem in OL 2007 that causes a 15 to 20 second
preview pane delay whenever you click on an email that has an attachment?
If I click on emails with no attachments, there is no delay in the preview
pane. I can go back to emails with attachments with no delay, but after an
undetermined time (short) the same delay will occur with emails that have
already been previewed.

Could be my Symantec antivirus client is scanning the attachment; though,
this didn't appear to be an issue in previous OL version. Any other
thoughts?

Symantec may or may not be the culprit here, however, there is no need for
email scanning at all. The first time you try to do ANYTHING with an email
attachment, print it, copy it, save it, read it, or anything else, the
resident part of ALL virus scanners will scan it and NAIL it, if its
infected. The only thing email scanning is really good at doing is screwing
up email service.

Frequently asked questions about Norton AntiVirus Email Scanning

"Is my computer still protected against viruses if I disable Email Scanning?
Disabling Email Scanning does not leave you unprotected against viruses that
are distributed as email attachments. Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect scans
incoming files as they are saved to your hard drive, including email and
email attachments. Email Scanning is just another layer on top of this. To
make sure that Auto-Protect is providing the maximum protection, keep
Auto-Protect enabled and run LiveUpdate regularly to ensure that you have
the most recent virus definitions."
