Files cannot be previewed in Outlook 2007 or Windows 7

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/providers/file-previewers-for-outlook-HA010097995.aspx
explains that the 2007 Microsoft Office system comes with File
previewers that allow you to preview the Excel 2007 files in Microsoft
Office Outlook 2007.
When I go to open up an email which has an excel attachment I get a
message that says "This file cannot be prviewed because there is no
previewer installed for it."

I'm using office 2007 and just upgraded to Win 7 from XP.

Also, in widows explorer, the preview window also shows "no preview
available" for Excel documents, or PDF documents and documents with a
file type: EML. And for Word documents i get a message that says this
file can't be previewed because of an error in the microsoft office
Word prviewer.

Any ideas?

Was Outlook / Office 2007 installed before you upgraded to Windows 7
from XP?

Many files installed in XP don't run in 7. It is always best to do a
reformat then install Windows 7. Of Course, your Documents, Favorites,
Address Book and Emails should be stored on a different partition from the
operating system partition, where after installing, you can move the Address
Book and Emails, plus Favorites back. Leave your Documents on a seperate
partition.

Outlook / office 2007 was installed before i upgraded to windows 7. I
was prepared to reformat, but instead followed the instructions with
the Windows 7 installation disk -- which prompted me to back up, but
not reformat.

By the way, "This file cannot be viewed because of an error with the
following previewer: Microsoft office excel previewer. To open this
file in its own program, double-click it". is the message I get when
I right click the excel attachment of an email in Outlook 2007 and
select Other times i do the same thing -- and I see a preview. (The
problem is intermittent.)

For example, you have a partition for the operating system, then you
have a seperate partition for Documents. You can easily reformat the
operating system partition without losing your Documents. Windows 7 will
always take the Drive C: designation, even though, it might be installed on
the f:\ partition.

Move your Documents, Address Book, Favorites and Briefase Folder plus
your Email Store Folder for Oulook, on another partition and reformat the
operating system partition.

You are having one problem now, and later you might have another. There
is a bug currently in Windows 7, right now, causing it to Not Respond, in
some instances.

Has Windows Update, updated Office 2007, since you added Windows 7?
