Help- No System Restore, Some Web Pages only Partially Load, Applications will not launch

D

Derrick

My computer has gone crazy. It started when I attempted to load the
Security Suite from Charter Communications, (my Norton had just expired).
After loading it, my system began automatic re-booting before fully loading
windows and I finally chose "load last know good configuration". The system
will now boot, I removed the security suite but my computer is doing weird
things.

For example, I went and bought the Mcafee Security Suite and the pop up
window for the application launcher will load, however it does not populate
with text and basically, it just stops. I decided to do a system restore,
and that program behaves exactly the same way. The system restore window
will pop up, but it just blank Certain websites will not load (ie. Mcafee's
help website). If I could get the system restore to work, I would probably
be ok, but I cant get it to work.

Please help and thank you,

Derrick

Did you uninstall Norton before installing CC's SS? If not it could be a
real mess to clean if the two apps had push and shove contest.
Even if you did uninstall Norton it most definitely left a lot of crap
behind and you best chance at getting most of it out is in Safe Mode with
the removal tool distributed by Symantec. If you can boot to Safe Mode
see:

I will strongly suggest that if your machine is unprotected at this point
in time, that you use another protected machine to access the net. An
unprotected machine connected to the net is like walking naked inches from
an Africanized bee colony.

If all esle fails you can perform an in place reinstall which leaves your
files intact. For info:

Wow! I was fishing around on that site and realized I could not expand a
couple of check marks on the page to uninstall Norton and that took me to
another page, long story short, I reinstalled "Scripting" and everything
appears to be working now. THANKS!

Thankyou for the response. You provided a bookmark link from the page I
provided that takes you to the Symantec links list at the bottom of the
page. If you were unable to expand the lists, another link is provided on
the same page at the bottom above the lists to an article that explains
why, one of them being scripting turned off. As you discovered that was
the problem and also let's me know it's not the page so I don't have to
search down the source of an issue. Thanks again
