Don

I'm brand spanking new to FP. I'm going to be using FP2000. My wife is
trying to set up a small business to sell art work. I have several
questions.
My IP is Verizon. With my account I get 10 megs of personal web space. I
plan to buy an additional 50 megs. Do you think this would be enough? Is
staying with Verizon a good choice?

How do I go about getting a ".com" address? What are the things to look out
for when I'm buying this? Recommendations please??

There are more questions I'm sure, but at the moment these are the only ones
that come to mind. I think this should get me started.
Thanks Don...............

Go to www.dotster.com to purchase your domain. Reasonable price ... good
service. Then I would suggest you find a 'local' hosting company ... one
that you can actually talk to as you get started. Don't woryy about more
that 10 MB at this time, but discuss it with the host just in case you'll
need more later.
...."additional 50 megs. Do you think this would be enough?" It will all
depend on the size of the site when you have it finished.
So that you don't use too manys MBs be sure that you learn to resize and
optimize your images carefully in a program such as Paint shop Pro v.10.
What kind of art work??? Do you know how to photograph it well?
Here's a site I did for art glass:
http://www.silvermoonartglass.com/ It might give you some ideas.
Here's a work in progress:
http://www.chumstonecrafts.com/ very incomplete right now but it will give
you layout ideas.

Eleanor,
Thanks for your quick reply. If you don't mind I have a couple of follow up
questions.
Besides the domain name should I purchase anything else from dotster?
Dotster also offers web space (but see my next question).
By a "local hosting co" I suppose you mean someone other than Verizon? If
that's what you mean then, that will take some research since I'm not
familiar with anything local.

My wife does paintings. Right now she's been getting requests for gourd
paintings. She also does still life paintings, murals, almost anything with
paint.

Your sights are great, I hope I can come close to something like that for
her. I also bookmarked your page so as I proceed I can look back at your
suggestions.
Thanks again,
Don...........

Doesn't have to be local as long as tech support is good and you can talk to
someone fast.
I have several webs with alentus.com (windows server + asp.net) their
somewhere up in frozen Canada and they're great. I also have several with a
local guy (small independant) and they're *nix apache..and he's also good
for service...perhaps a little slower than alentus. I prefer the windows
server though.

OT... I got me new cammy yesterday ! Been taking pix of every dang thing!
:-)

No, I would not have Dotster host your site. Look in your local phone book
and call various hosts. I live in central Washington state and found a good
'local' company in Wenatchee. Use my regular e-mail address if you have
other questions.
