Help needed to upgrade RAM to 512MB

Suma

I have a low end desktop whose specs read -
128MB DDR
Memory :
Support for 200/266 MHz memory bus
Two DIMM slots for 168-pin SDRAM memory module

Arent 184-pin-DIMMs the newer DDRs/DDR2's? I am confused- If i get a
DDR module can I put it in the 168-pin slot ? Or should I look for the
older SDRAMS modules? What modules should I be getting?
Please let me know
Thanks in advance

If your mobo uses SDRAM, then it's not DDR compatible! There's SDR (single
data rate) RAM (or SDRAM) and DDR (Double Data Rate) RAM (or DDRAM). So I'm
confused by your reference to 128MB DDR, then 168-pin SDRAM.

The only time I've seen BOTH is some OEM boards, like those from ECS that
will sometimes support installation of either SDRAM or DDRAM (but not both
at the same time, of course). It will very obvious when this is the case
because you'll see two very different pairs of memory slots, one pair for
DDR sticks, the other pair for SDR sticks (typical).

Perhaps if you could get the actual mobo make & model, it would help. If
unknown, you can download, install, and run (for free) EVEREST Home Edition
( http://www.lavalys.com/products/overview.php?pid=1&lang=en&pageid=1 )
which will provide a detailed description of your installed components.

Your mobo takes only SDRAM - the 200/266 mhz refers to *internal* speed of
the processor - it looks to me like your motherboard is a socket A for AMD
processors - possibly one of the old KT133A chipset based boards. You should
have a manual to refer to.
