HELP! navw32.exe - Application error

S

Stormcrow

Everytime I open Outlook 2002, I got the following error message box:

navw32.exe - Application Error

The instruction at "0x0118935d" referenced memory at "0x013000008".
The memory could not be "read". Click OK to terminate the program

Everything seems to be working fine. I've scanned with Norton AV with
latest updates. No viruses. The box also comes up when I right-click
on any file and ask Norton to scan it.

And occasionally it tells me that my normal.dot file is 'still
infected" and asks if I would like to delete it.

I've searched the internet, including Microsoft's Knowledge Base.
I've found many references to this exact same problem dating back as
far as 2002 but no one ever seems to respond to it.

I'm running Windows XP Pro by the way. Any help or suggestions would
be greatly appreciated.

navw32.exe is the Norton AV application. I suggest you start troubleshooting
with Norton. Disabling the Office/Outlook integration might help to resolve
this as well.

As you probably know, NAVW32.EXE is the main program file for Norton
AntiVirus. Try turning off email virus scanning in Norton AntiVirus. See if
that helps. You'll still be protected, as Norton AntiVirus will still check
for viruses in attachments.

The file, NORMAL.DOT is the default template file for Word. Rename your
NORMAL.DOT file to NORMAL.OLD and Word will create a new NORMAL.DOT file.
That may also solve your problem.
