HELP!! Narrations and file size

Guest

I have a small 10 slide deck that without audio was at 1.19mb. I recorded
narration at each slide (a total of about 10 minutes) and the file grew to
98.2mb. What settings might I adjust to reduce the size of the final file?
(I HOPE I don't have to take this back to my boss for re-recording!)

Irma,

You need to down sample the recordings.
If you do a 'file > save as > html ' you will get a folder full of files
some of those will be audio files.

Using something like www.audacity.com you can open each sound file and
re-sample them to mono (or a lower bit rate)

As TAJ say you will need to save as html to get the sound files back.

Once you have the folder of wav files you cando as TAJ says OR use CDex
(free) to convert them all to RIFF headered mp3's in one go. Replace the
originals with these files (they should have the same names) and use
powerpoint to open the html file. Resave with a new name and see if that
isn't about 10x smaller. Don't bin the original and make sure the new file
works OK!

There are some Cdex instructions here
http://www.pptalchemy.co.uk/embed_mp3.html (but not for this exact
circumstance.) You can email me if youre stuck.

Thanks. I was able to convert the sound, but now when I send the
presentation out, there is no audio for the receipient. I've tried to save
the powerpoint file and the sound file to a shared drive and give the link to
the receipient, but still no audio. When we click on the speaker symbol on
each slide, we get this message:

"Windows Media Player cannot find the specified file. Be sure the path is
typed correctly. If it is, the file does not exist at the specified
location, or the computer where the file is stored is offline".

- Still in need of help!
