Last time I have left game cd in my cd drive and shot the
pc manually. When I restarted the PC, I forgot about it.
When I have removed the CD, it was too late... After I
shot down the PC and restarted it performs a scan disk and
at the end it restarts again and goes to scan disk again.
It does offer me to start with previous settings, safe
mode, etc., but none of these works. I have tried the
system recovery disks, but the only option offered there
is to reformat the disk, which I am not willing to do. I
have Windows XP home edition.
Please help!!!

If your system is still under warranty you might want to consult the
manufacturer. It is unlikely that simply leaving a CD in the PC would do
this.

A "Game" CD shouldn't have affected your pc cos it's not bootable (is it?)
Try borrowing a Home Edition CD and doing a repair install....
