HELP........ My PC is playing up!!

Can someone please help?
My computer has been freezing on me and it wont let me open anything, i also have to switch it off at the plug cos it wont let me shut down! this mustn't be doing it any good either?
Its soo slow when i put it on and takes ages to start up!
Im totally computer illiterate and dont have a clue! I have run blueyonder pc gaurd anti virus scan and so far it has picked up one virus and deleted it! do u think this could have been the problem?

Install, update & run ...

SpyBotSearch&Destroy, MS Windows Defender, Ad-AwareSE, SpywareBlaster ... you can get all of them from HERE then go get CCleaner careful NOT to install the Yahoo toolbar ... if they all fail then post your HJT log and we'll take a look.

For a decent AV program, consider Anti-Vir (free) or KAV (paid) ... anything else is just FUD.
