Run the "Cool Web Shredder" -
http://216.180.233.163/~merijn/files/CWShredder.exe
Close all open programs - click on the above downloaded
executable and follow the prompts.

Thank you for the information. May I ask what this
program does? Also, do you know what is causing the
problem?

Unfortunately, I am a little gun shy about just
arbitrarily downloading a program and running it,
especially one that is called web shredder, without
knowing a little about the program first.

You've got scumware on your computer. There are programs
that advertisers use to track customers -adware- or to
steal information - spyware. The problem you're talking
about, with the home page getting changed, is called
browser hijacking.

I use two programs to deal with scumware: Ad-Aware by
Lavasoft, and SpyBot Search and Destroy. I use both
programs. Ad-Aware seems to find a few more problems than
Spybot. Both of these programs are freeware; just put the
company name in a Google search for the exact URL.
You need to keep the programs updated and run them regularly.
For additional information, you can run a search on Adware,
Spyware, Scumware, and computer parasites. Doxdesk
(and.doxdesk.com? .org?) can run an online scan (free).

Good luck!
