Help! my dvd/rw isn't working

When I was using my computer to watch a dvd, the computer says that there is
no cd in the drive. But when i put a blank cd in there, it says that there is
something in there. So I don't know what's wrong. Can somebody tell me why my
drive won't see dvd or help me to fix, please?

Obvious question, but are you sure your drive supports DVD?

If it ever worked, then most likely the drive is broken.
If it never worked, then most likely the drive cannot handle a dvd.
