help! multiple problems caused by removing programs

Ever since I got my ipod a few days ago I have been having to install and
uninstall itunes and quicktime over and over again in my WindowXP. I finally
got them both to work properly yesterday and I even decided to "clean out"
some unnecessary programs I had installed such as MSN messenger and
Irfanview. Now, when I go to defragment my disk, it says my C drive has less
than 8% free space even though I have actually uninstalled programs and I had
more than 75% free space a few days ago. My computer also won't let me do
system restore. It also won't even let me uninstall ipod, itunes, and
Quicktime from from my "add or remove programs" list. Unfortunately, the
ipod, itunes, Quicktime, and my Norton anti-virus software now no longer
work. I'm obviously very computer illiterate and any help anyone could give
would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.

Uninstalling the programs that you mentioned should not have caused the problems which you
are experiencing. Since you have not given details of exactly WHAT you uninstalled, and
HOW exactly you uninstalled, and/or whether you attempted to download "free" music from
sites other than recommended pay sites, where you might have downloaded more than just
music onto your system, it might not be easy to fix your multiple problems. First I
would try to get into Safe Mode by pressing the F8 key when you power on your system,
BEFORE the Windows XP logo appears. If you see the logo, you have gone to far and will
have to power off your system and try again until the menu comes up where you can select
Safe Mode without Networking. Then see if you can run System Restore from there. It will
take a while for Safe Mode to load, during which time you will be asked to select YOUR
user profile. Before the Desktop loads you will be given the option of loading the Safe
Mode desktop or going directly to System Restore. Click on the NO button to go directly
to System Restore, and opt to Restore your computer to an earlier time, clicking NEXT,
then selecting a BOLD calendar date prior to the problem. If that does not work, try
going to:

http://www.webroot.com/land/freescan.php?rc=4257

and scanning your drive with Spy Sweeper to see if you have picked up any
spyware/adware/malware/trojans. Unfortunately, when there are serious multiple problems,
there might not be an easy fix, especially for someone who is not computer literate. If
that is the case, if possible you should back up anything that you would not want to lose,
just in case you cannot fix the problems and have to do a Clean Install.

Norton protected recycle bin on the system? Only you can see what's
taking up space on your system.
