HELP!! "Missing CD-DVD ROM Drive

R

Robin Lund

Tonight, I tried to download a program from a CD. When it didn't
automatically start, I began to investigate. When I went to "My Computer",
I noticed that the drive letter for the CD/DVD drive was missing. I went to
Device Manager and tried to update the driver. It said that my driver was
"up to date". However, it still wasn't working.

So, I launched my HP Total Care Advisor and received a "critical alert" for
NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 Graphics driver. It downloaded fine, but when it
tried to install, I received the following error message: "Setup detected
that the operating system in use is not Windows Vista/Vista (64-bit). This
setup program and its associated driver are designed to run only on Windows
Vista/Vista 64-bit. The installation will be terminated." Installation
failed. Now, what do I do?

My computer is a laptop new which came with Windows XP Media Center, ready
for Vistal Premium Upgrade. I upgraded last week and until 4/24, everything
was working properly. In fact, I downloaded a program from a CD on Tuesday
morning....two days ago. I attempted a System Restore, but the earliest
restore point was 4/25. I am stumped!!!

Can anyone help me? Thanks, in advance. Robin

Switching to Linux would probably solve that problem. Let's see, for you,
I'd say Red Hat.

KDE

you are trying to install a 64 bit video driver on a 32 bit system. go back
to the Nvidia website and find the 32 bit driver for your card.
