Help me recover 10GB+ of Kazaa partial dat files...

Help - I'm desperate..

In Kazaa I accidentally "Cancelled all downloads" and my 100+ partially
downloaded files of a couple of GBs over a few months are wiped out.

At this moment, my Kazaalite is still open and I have left my D: drive
(where the files are) undisturbed alone so as not to overwrite them.

I tried using Restoration2514, "R-Studio Undelete" and "Recovery Pro"
without success -
- all three programs show the 100+ .dat deleted files are still there
but they are reduced to "0 bytes" size! Why?
- and there's no point recovering these since they do not even have the
any file info in it :(

I have left my Kazaalite app still open on the desktop waiting for a
reply from the newsgroup! I am puzzled why Kazaa would reduce the size
all the cancelled (considered deleted?) dat files to zero before
removing them. Would it be any different if I exit Kazaa now and run
the recovery programs?

There is a "Raw Recovery" in recovery pro but I'm not familiar in
using it.. would it help?

If there is no solution to recovering my partially downloaded dat
files, it looks like I will have to do a "Resume" of each and every
file manually before I can close Kazaa, which means they will start
downloading from scratch.. many more months of waiting for the hard to
find files to finish downloading.
Any suggestions at all would be greatly appreciated.

Remove Kazaa from your machine.

That's probably your only choice.

Kazaa is NOT a recommeded app. Sooner or later the use of it will toast
your pc.

Use Limewire Instead or Shareaza - or any other file swapping program Kazza
is S-H-1-T to put it VERY mildly

Just as a bit of info for the future, backup your Kazaa program
directory along with the partial download directory. That way, if there
is an error you should be able to restore both and continue on, minus
maybe a small bit.

Also, why would you attempt to download 10 gigs+ at one time? Not only
would that slow down you (and possibly the network) but, as in your
case, sets you up for a catostophic loss in case of a power failure,
human error, or just plain gremlins in the machine. Try downloading
just a movie at a time and if the above mentioned advice doesn't help
you're not as screwed.

What a load of crap. Kazaa can no more damage you PC than any other
programme.

Virus's may be able to damage the data on your PC, but even they don't
damage the PC itself.

The spreading of such miss information is stupid and unhelpful.

Limewire is pathetic and Shareaza is not much better, so why tell him that.
He wants to download files at a reasonable speed, not wait forever for the
software to connect.

issues with it. HTH

Partial downloads listed over a few months, are just that. As for the files
saved via Kazaa, they are still there. Search for the share folder. Better
yet, for the next program used, send shortcut to your desktop. As for your
next program, my teens here use LimeWire with many thumbs up. Good luck!

Kazaa loads spyware. If left unseen to, a build up of spyware on the
system can in fact, make a machine unbootable.

Not all versions of Kazaa have spyware. Kazaa Lite Resurrection, while
poorly written and crashing every so often, places absolutely no spyware on
the PC. Of course, there are other file sharing programs which are better
written and more functional, such as Limewire.

And it doesn't automatically mess up your PC. If you blindly run
executables after downloading them in Kazaa, then you'll open yourself up to
a virus or malware attack...just as you would if you blindly open e-mail and
run the enclosed applications.

Just run programs like Adaware, Spybot, etc. AND run a script-monitoring
program, like something from Norton or Mcafee. I've downloaded all sorts of
files. 1-2% had some kind of virus or malescious script which tried to
execute. Norton anti-virus and the script-monitoring portions of Norton
firewall protected me from every one.
