help me! logon = slow

At startup my applying personal settings message takes an awfully long time to load. I had the same problem with Saving your settings on logoff but i fixed it by editing it in gpedit.msc. I went to start>run>gpedit.msc>Comp. Config.>Admin Temp.>System>Logon and I edited the Max. retries to unload.. i enabled it and set it to 3. Can i do the same thing with The Logon? Ive tried without success. thanks

P.S. I have no roaming profiles. and its just me and 2 other computers. (local

I don't know abut the startup problem, but what you did for the shutdown
masked the symptoms without fixing the cause. See this page for more

It sounds like your computer is looking for a DNS server that it cannot
find. Is this computer in a domain? Windows 2000 or 2003 domain? Need
more details.
