Help, lost connetcion to net etc

Hi, I ran crap cleaner on my win2k system earlier, then rebooted, but
now I have lost my internet connection, and networking. The win2k
machine now can't see the other win98 machine, which could about an hour
ago, and vice versa. I can't ping the other machine, and yet the tcp/ip
addresses are still there.
Another problem which has occured is that both firefox and thunderbird
will now not load up.

What can I do to get it working again?
help please
Thanks

It may have cleaned out some malware like DotNet from the temp
folder that hooks your Winsock chain - when you delete this without
unhooking it, the chain is broken and Internet access goes away
even though TCP/IP appears to be working. If so, it is easy to correct.

There are a number of freeware utilities that will reset your
Winsock stack - just do a search at download.com or
your favorite download site. Alternatively, you can simply
uninstall and reinstall TCP/IP - just make sure you know your
settings so you can reconfigure it.

If this isn't the problem, it won't help, but it won't do any damage.
