Help: It is now safe to turn off.....

I always had the screen at shutdown that said it is now safe to turn
off your computer

After installing service pack 2 that screen no longer shows up.
It is a standard pc and I have tried enabling APM both in the BIOS and
settings , if APM is enabled the computer at shutdown goes right to
re-boot.
When I say the screen is missing , I mean that all I am seeing is a
grayish (not black) screen where it would normally pop up.

Any fix?

Most likely, SP2 updated components that control/interact with the
power functions. Usually, this is a BIOS issue. Does your BIOS
have an ACPI enable setting and is it disabled ? Problems like you
describe are common with some HP Pavilion "Hawk" desktops.
They will report ACPI compliancy at install, but are marginal at
actually supporting/running it. I would check the vendor's website
and note how many BIOS firmware revisions down from the last
available your PC is. Check the Readme.Txt of Change log and
see if any Power/ACPI issues are addressed with a new Firmware
flash. It might help if you posted the vendor/model # of the PC.

You should *not* have been seeing the message: It is Now Safe to Turn Off
Your Computer. If you were seeing it, you had a problem.

See these...
