HELP! Importing video with clips freezes

I am trying to import a video with it automaticly breaking up into smaller
clips and it gets to maybe 2% and freezes to where I have to end task now. I
have also tried to just import the whole clip then right click it and create
clips. but it will again freeze up. WHat is going on?
