I suspect it's a virus existing locally because the headers make no sense
and SpamCop agrees that the header is incomplete/missing.
Resident Avast has never complained and online scanning by both McCaffee and
another found nothing.
It's a mystery.
Thanks for your help.
The best answer will come after you identify our email client(s). If
you don't identify you will only get guesses.
I can keep SPAM from getting in into my system at all by blocking
sites from my ISP (Comcast), if it gets into my system, I I can keep
it out of my Outlook inbox, I can keep it out of my Outlook Express
inbox, I can keep it out of my Yahoo! inbox (which is not on my
system), I can keep it out of my gmail inbox but they all work
differently using similar principles.
Using what I already have I can block by header, sender, subject,
content and add new things as I go along and I am not using any SPAM
blocking software - I don't need any help.
Depending on who has your email address (because you gave it out -
perhaps with good intent) you may not be able to stop them all since
sender information and subject lines can change on purpose to fool
your setup or filtering mechanism to let the occasional SPAM get
through. That is what they do and they know how to do it. When that
happens, you block that.
If you "sign up" or register on sites on the Wide Wide World of Web
where it is probably not going to be a long relationship, make a
special email account just for those things and use that when you
register. Any junk will go there.
If you are required to sign up or register for a site and only want to
look around, go to
www.bugmenot.com and see if there is already a user
ID and PW you can use to get in, but not register yourself. This is
great for a temporary ID and PW to get past their information
collection process for things you may only use once.
Pretty soon, you will get less and less. I don't get hardly any SPAM
or spoofing emails and if one gets through that looks similar, that
means they have changed their method. I will add it or adjust my
rules for what gets through and know that I will never see another one
like it.
Now, I''m off to claim my jackpot prize of $1,000,000 worth of British
pounds.
