Help! I did something that has stopped my speakers from working!!!

I was cleaning up my HD and I think I deleted something having to do
with my speakers. I have downloaded the latest drivers for my sound
card and my speakers are working (I hear static briefly when I plug
them in) but I still have no sound. I have tried everything I can
think of including going thru every program that uses the speakers to
ensure none are muted. Still nothing. Anyone got any ideas?

Control Panel-System-Hardware-Device manager and see if yoyr soundcard is
still listed or whether there is a problem with it.

How were you "cleaning up" the HDD?
