Can anyone help please, I've recently updated my laptop to
Windows XP, before this was done I saved all my documents
to a disk. When i got my laptop back and transfered my
saved documents from the diks to the hard drive all files
transfered fine apart from one (the most important one!)
and now it's stating

"Expenditure.xls can not be opened. The file may be read
only, or you may be trying to access a read only location.
Or, the server the document stored is stored on my not be
responding"

I find this very hard to believe as it was a simple save
to disk which I have done many a time!!!

Thanks to anyone who can help

I would first check that the data is still held within the
file. Try to open it in word and see if the data appears.

If this works ok, try copying your file and see if the
copy will open.
