1. Click Start, click Run, type cmd in the Open box, and then click OK.

2. At the command prompt, type net stop wuauserv, and then press ENTER.

3. Type "rename %windir%\softwaredistribution\wuredir
softwaredistribution\wuredir.OLD" (without the quotes) and then press ENTER.

4. Type net start wuauserv.

5. Use the Windows Update Web site again to install updates.

The folder will be automagically recreated on your next visit to WU.

1. Enable Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start > Control Panel > Folder
Options > View.

2. Open Windows Explorer to C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution <=this folder

3. Delete C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\WuRedir <=this subfolder

4. Close Windows Explorer.

5. Reboot.

If still no joy, delete C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution <=this folder &
reboot.

NB: Deleting the Software Distribution folder will remove your Update
History at http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com.
