HELP!!! Home Search Assistant

For some reason, we now have a Windows XP 'Home Search Assistant' now on our computer. Ithas taken over our default search, our home page, it's bringing on pop-ups, etc. It's driving me CRAZY and I haven't been able to get rid of it. It wasn't there before...it just showed up one day. My computer will no longer enable me to change me home page, or to add/remove this program or uninstall it...any suggestions???

Activate in Safe Mode:
Reboot tapping F8 each second.
Select Safe Mode at the menu.
Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Activate Windows
Choose the option to activate by phone.
Call the displayed number, done in about 5 minutes.
