Help Help Can't Boot

I am running XP Home
512 MB Memory

When I turn on my machine I get the following message.

I tried to save boot won't same message
I tried to boot with command promp won't same message
I can't seem to do anything
I don't want to reload the sysyem because of data that is not backed up (yes
it should be)

Please Help

If you have XP Installation CD, try Recovery Console in there. If you can,
do the disk scan thingy...

Tried to run scandisk from Recovery disk won't run
tried to run scandsk from dos disk won't
replaces the hard drive with an old one i had and scandsk runs
looks like i have a bed hard disk
