Help, hardware is gone after some time

Please can someone help me.

When I start up, everything works fine.
If I look under hardware, all the devices are there.

After a while audio doesn't work anymore. Without any reason.
And the hardware list is completely empty.

I have scanned for virusses without result (
Error listing can be opened only one time per session.
If I look inside I get a wondering profile error.

Advice welcome.

A friend of mine recently had a similar problem.
His soundblaster automagically disappeared after few hours of work.
In his case this was PCI card badly seated in the mobo.

something different here I think. No problems with XP, only 2000 gives this
problem.
All the hardware is gone and switching of gives lots of errors. Power
management, explorer,..
I think it has something to do with my profile and some virus.
