Help!! - Error message during setup

K

Ken Friedman

I get the following error message during setup:

"unregmp2.exe - Entry point not found.

The procedure entry point GetIUMS could not be located in
the dynamic link library MSDART.DLL."

This happens while I am doing a repair operation due to a
corrupted sound driver during the "Installing Windows"
phase of setup. Setup stops.

How do I recover from this? I could find anything that
covers this erro in the Knowledge Base.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Ken,

Here are a couple of workarounds that seem to be successful in getting by
the error and completing the install/reinstall:

1) Press Shift +F10 to bring up the Command prompt. Then key in taskmgr.exe
in the DOS window and hit ENTER. The Task Manager should be started. If
not, then try pressing C+Shift+ESC. In the Task Manager window, select the
error messsage window in the application list and click "End Task". In the
process list, terminate the unregmp2.exe program. Exit the DOS prompt window
and resume the installation process.

2) Try holding down the CTRL key and clicking the OK button repeatedly.

Setup stops

Patti,

Thanks for your suggestions. I was able to complete setup
by continuing to click the OK button in the error message
dialog box until it went away. I was doing a file repair
while this happend.

I believe that my registry is corrupted somehow. the only
way I know how to correct this is to a clean install. I
am not at all comfortable trying to fix the registry.

However, I am considiring buyin a new machine anyway to
replace my P-III 500MHZ Dell. If I do that, that problem
will go away. I can always try Norton Utilities to try to
fix the registry.

You're welcome for the suggestions, and I'm glad that you were able to
complete the setup routine. I think that the cause of the error is
mismatched DLL files, and I don't know if fixing anything in the registry
would help to solve it....nor do I know what registry entries might need
fixing.

Yes, if you start off fresh with a new machine that problem will go
away..........then you can work on creating new problems to
troubleshoot.....JK!! :)
