help-edit copy and edit paste wont work in windows explorers, cant
restore files in recycle bin either (i.e. can't move files from one
folder to the next. drag and drop won't work either)

After cleaning up from a virus attack the edit copy and edit paste
functions and the cut and paste functions won't work. Also I can't
restore files in my recycle bin.

Have necesscary registry entries been removed or replaced by the
virus?

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Yes.

How did you clean the platform ?

A good anti virus removal tool will repair the Registry and clean/delete the infection.

What virus was found ?
