help connecting to the internet

Hi all,

I'm trying to help a friend fix her computer so I had her bring the pc to my
house. My home setup is a small network with 2 computers connected to a
router using a Linksys cable modem. At her home, she uses a dial up
connection.

I was able to connect her computer to my network the night she brought it
over. The second day I couldn't. The only thing I did was remove some
spyware and install a couple of programs (CCleaner and Spybot). Why can't
I connect to the internet now?? Everything I try to connect it gives me the
famous "Cannot connect..blah blah and this page can't be displayed". All
firewalls are disabled and also configured to allow traffic from the other
computers. I also disabled her 2 dial-up connections. Still nothing.

When I look in My Network Places, it shows there's a connection and an IP
address being assigned through DHCP and I can see the home page address at
the bottom left of the screen.

Please help if you can. Thanks.

Any time you remove spyware, check for LSP / Winsock corruption.

Thanks for the reply Chuck! I tried the Winsock XP Fix this morning but
that didn't work. I noticed in the link you sent there are 3 other links.
I'll check those out when I get home.

Hi Chuck,

I tried using that LSP-Fix but I'm not sure I really understand it. When I
run it, I get four files in Keep column and none in the Remove column. Am I
suppose to do something with those files?

LSP-Fix is a bit trippy, isn't it? In simple mode, all you do is hit the Finish
button. If there's any changes made, it will tell you. No Finish button?
Stretch out the window til the scroll bars are gone. There's a text file that
comes with it, that will instruct you.

Problem solved Chuck. For some reason there was a firewall on her computer
but I didn't see it (ZoneLab). I just ran the network wizard and voila!
Thanks for your help.
