Ok, this is the problem, I don’t think it’s a problem with my monitor, it
goes to sleep though… as i guess it is thinking nothing is there to be
read.. When I restart, the computer lights all turn on, I can open dvd/cd
drives etc, but
nothing happens, nothing appears on my monitor. So I'm just stuck, can't do
anything else if i restart, and try to get into via safe mode, or last
known good configuration, it still does the same thing. i have reason to
believe its
something to do wth my power outlet. i can't even get to my bois.
the problem
when I turn the computer on it goes through the normal start-up stuff, then
"system is about to start windows" etc it just keeps doing that without
actually loading windows, over and over.. i have to do a hard power reset for
it to start over. PLEASE HELP!!!!

so when you say it shows nothing on the screen you actually mean it
shows the loading windows screen and just hangs on that? well thats not
going to be a power problem. put your recovery cd in the drive and
reboot it, and see if you can recover xp.. however i suspect a faulty
harddrive.

I don't know if this will fix the problem but its a start. Can you boot from
your WinXP cd? If you can try getting to system restore or repair windows
install. Hope that helps.

Boot from your Install CD, select repair, Log in to the recovery
console.

then type

chkdsk c: /r

then reboot.

Check the following:

Make sure you monitor is firmly plugged in to the video card port, and that
the power cable is firmly plugged in and turned on.

You also mention something about the powerpoint - did you try another one?

Other checks would be the video card - if you have a second PC, check the
card works by installing it in another computer.

Also check that the RAM is seated firmly in the slots on the motherboard,
and that the video card etc are also firmly in their PCI/PCI-E or AGP
slot(s).

Seeing the computer is turning on, it probably isn't the power supply of the
system unit.

Do you hear any beeps from the system at the POST test?

Check the computer's manual for a rundown of what the various beeps mean,
since the P.O.S.T is testing all the basic hardware is functioning correctly
and will indicate wth a series of beeps as to any errors (e.g. two beeps in
quick succession might indicate a video card problem), including
video/graphics, before Windows starts and loads the correct drivers for
various hardware.

There seems to be another unlying issue here. You say you can see the "Start
Up Menu" with "Safe Mode", "Last known good Configuration" etc?.....if yo
ucan see that, the monitor is obviously working. I'd say it is a issue with
a corrupted operating system or something else entirely.

To get to the BIOS, you need to press the key for your system (might be DEL
or CTRL or F12 etc - refer to your system's manual).

You need to press the relevant key quick soon after the system starts to
catch it at the right moment.
