HELP - Centinel VxD

Has anyone else had this error (Centinel VxD) on there
PC, it has happened on 4 of my Machines, it happens when
you download the critical updates from microsoft and then
reboot, it stops all traffic in/out of the machine,
meaning you cannot use a network or the internet. What
happens is when you shut down it pops up the window -
Cannot end task, Centinel VxD is running - End Now.

How I know it comes from the critical updates is because
I have reformatted all my systems and reinstalled windows
Home or Professional XP and installed the updates one at
a time and on all of them the error occurs straight after
updating.

I have looked on the net and symantec say its caused by a
virus this i donot beleive as the updates come from
microsoft. Does anybody know what causes this error and
does anybody know how to fix it.

cheers cal

Below link points to a 'Symantec' page;
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/backdoor.delf.c.html

See 'technical details' on page;
Apparently the subject is not a virus, but is in fact an AV (or part of) and
a virus called 'Backdoor.Delf.C' is trying to stop it (it and other AV).
