I have one XP system that the Help and Support from the Start menu does
nothing.
Help does not work with any application that uses .chm filee as the help
file (compiled HTML). The get a @MSTOR can't read it message.

Can't even read a ebook in .chm on this machine.

It has 89358 installed and all the help modules are at the same (2453)
version level. But then so are two system near by that all the help works
fine.

This system lost the help function resently, but not sure because it is not
use often.

Anyone more in the know on this problem? Much in the KB but none seems to
apply??

Thanks Will that looks like a very useful link. I had just what I was
looking for
on the Register entrys.

However I didn't get it fixed. The entries given for the Registry seem to be
some what old and don't take into account the newer autherization stuff.
But I used the same replacemets from a system that work but to no avail.
More on this in the reply ti Wes below.

Thanks for the input Wes
That didn't fix the problem but it caused me to try some thinks
that make the problem a bit more clear.

The HelpCtr exe can not be executed on this machine as thing are defined
Why I don't know.
Making a shortcut to the exe does not work, going to the folder and double
click
it will not make it run.

Replaced it from a another machine does not help, but it shows up an odd
happening. I renamed the helpctr to xhelpctr before coping in the replacement.
the system replaces it very soon after renaming it from where?

So the system is set to insure there is a helpctr.exe in helpctr binarys
but it will not allow it to execute.
Oh the Start/Run helpctr won't do it either.
All of the above work fine on the system I am using for comparisons.
Must be some sort of authorization issue. Scratching head!
