cannot view chm help documents

Hello,

I recently had a rootkit in my Windows XP Pro machine and I removed it with
a couple of programs, but I think it did some damage while it was on my
computer. I tunes doesn't start and I can't open .chm files (help files),
I double click on them and nothing happens. I checked the file associations
to open the file and it's set to default (microsoft HTML Help Executable).
Any ideas how I can fix this.

thanks in advance,

Shaun

Hi Shaun,

Copy the following text (starting from line "REGEDIT4") to Notepad and save
the file with .reg extension. Double-click the .reg file to run it.

REGEDIT4

;CHM file type association fix

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.chm]
@="chm.file"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\chm.file]
@="Compiled HTML Help file"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\chm.file\DefaultIcon]
@="C:\\WINDOWS\\hh.exe,0"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\chm.file\shell]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\chm.file\shell\open]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\chm.file\shell\open\command]
@="\"C:\\WINDOWS\\hh.exe\" %1"

Thanks,

I did exactly what you said, and after running the .reg file it said that it
successfully added it to the registry, but it didn't fix my problem. When I
double click on a .chm file, the hour glass shows for 1/2 a second and then
nothing else happens. Is there a way to replace the microsoft HTML Help
Executable program??
