Help CD-Rom will no longer write to a CD-R

When using WinXP with SP1 trying to copy files over to a CD-R gives me a
error message, something about error while writing.
I first thought it had something to do with INCD becuase I just upgraded
INCD a couple of days ago and everything was working ok prior to doing so.
I've removed INCD and tried to copy files to a CD-r but still the error
message.
It's a Samsung CD-R/RW SW-252F...I know cheapy...but it was working and
still works if I'm burning an image file...just won't work with the WINXP
and copy.
TIA.

In My Computer right click on the CD drive, choose properties, then the
recording tab. Make sure enable recording is checked. Then in Control
Panel | Administrative Tools | Services make sure the Imapi CD Burning
COM service is started and set to automatic.

Well I have tried uninstalling INCD, reinstalling it and uninstalling it
again...still no luck, if I get desperate enough I will uninstall Nero 6
completely...
Thanks for the suggestion, much appreciated.

Ok, I found enable recording checked, found Imapi CD Burning COM service
not started and it was set to manual...changed both as you suggested, still
will not record from WinXP directly, also I noticed that the "started"
reverts back to blank after I tried and got error message when it failed to
copy files to a CD-R with WinXP copy to CD process.
I did manage to use Alcohol 120% to copy some files to a CD-R yesterday but
haven't tried again today.
Any other suggestions?
Your comments are much appreciated.

Ive hunted all through these suggested pages but to no avail, no where does
it address the problem I'm having....which appears to be bad media, at
least that's what the error message implies , but I have turned right
around and written to the same CD-R using Nero or Alcohol 120% with no
problem...so I just don't know where to turn now.

Thanks for your suggestions, much appreciated.

Sorry they didn't help. One thing I don't understand, why don't you
just use Nero or Alcohol if they work?

I guess your question is understandable.(G)
WinXP provides a option which should work, did work, and now doesn't and
I found it convenient when it did work.
Personally I'm fed up with software producers who charge an arm and a
leg for software that fails to run as advertised during it's
lifetime...yes there are always workarounds, but why should I have to
pay for another piece of software to do what WINXP says it can do and
did do but no longer does, it changed without any modifications or
changes to tyhe system from or by me?
This is not a rant against your question, after all you have tried to be
of assistance which is much appreciated...any ranting is directed at
malfunctioning software.(G)
