I bought a dell inspiron system, or rather a family
member bought it for me,and has registered it previously
when she was looking at it... How can i re-register the
system in my name? i have tried re-naming files that
display her name, but a message appears saying that the
name is required by the system to work properly.. any
suggestions would be recieved gratefully.

even you do rename the files aren't do any good to you, you need to to
call Dell to transfer the owner ship, so in the future you have
problem (warranty issues) you can deal with them directly.

if you want to a fresh start as new PC, pop in the recover CD, it will
set back to dell factory default.(all current data will be lost)

It would help if you told us what type and version of Windows you are
using.

If it's XP, start `RegEdit`.

Go to the registry branch:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion

Alter the string values of `RegisteredOrganization` and
`RegisteredOwner`.
