HELP!!! cant get my columns to do what i want

Been trying to figure it out for at least an hour or so. How do i get rid of
the vertical lines that appear when i put columns in my document???

In Word 2002 or 2003, click on Format | Columns | uncheck the "Line
between" box | OK.
