help, cant find programs running

B

Brad

WinXP home with sp2

something got changed somewhere

now at the bottom where the running programs are usually at? blank. I have
outlook, internet explorer and other applications. toolbar? or thing at the
bottom is on auto hide. move the mouse to the bottom to pick a different
program, using the mouse, nothing shows as running.

I have to minimize all programs until the one is found, or use the keyboard
alt tab.

The alt tab shows the running programs that USED TO BE showing at the
bottom. I left click, properties or settings and have tried every single
one of them. nothing returns the running programs to the tool bar thing at
the bottom.

move the mouse there to the bottom, it pops up and only shows Start then
the shortcuts, blank, then at the right side are the programs that are
active? the audio/sound icon, the windows messenger icon, norton icon, etc

at the bottom, nothing shows up for internet explorer or outlook express.
open a pdf document? nothing shows at the bottom for adobe.

Is this a bug in winXP?

it must have been something that gets set, then wont change until the system
is rebooted because one day it was like that, no changes to properties or
options or settings has any effect on this.

Does winXP have to be re installed to get the running programs to show
again? buy a new computer?

This didnt work.

Ive tried it, the only difference is system tray icons are now gone, Nortons
doesnt even show up, and no change in any property/setting makes it show up.

There is nothing you can do by using a mouse to change between running
programs on this version of winXP.

The keyboard must be used, and usually it sits on the floor, unused. its
irritating to find, pick up and try to identify keyboard keys.

I develop software and would never call something a bug unless there was an
indication thats what it is?

Whether or not some 3rd party software took some action to remove the
running program icons, Windows XP should have a solid feature to restore
them.

Can someone suggest steps to try to solve this XP issue? Is there a place
to search for this kind of thing happening to others? if so, what is the
correct terminology for the icon things at the bottom that represent the
running program?

Is this such a common problem that no one wants to respond? its so obvious
everyone should know?

is there a place to suggest possible winXP bugs? which I think this one is?
