Help! Can I stop Windows Explorer from refreshing?

If I have Windows Explorer minimized while I'm using another application (any application), my screen will suddenly switch to Explorer for no apparent reason. Does anyone know why - or how to stop it? It happens every 5 to 45 minutes. I've tried reformatting my drive and installing from fresh cd's. I've virus scanned. Ran Norton systemcheck. Got all the windows updates. Thanks in advance!
 
Check the Event Viewer for anything pertaining to this. It is not normal and I suspect some installed software.
 
I doubt it.

Something is calling explorer.exe. You need to find a way to replicate this on demand. With that we can help. Without all I can say it is some installed software.
