Good morning folks. I really hope that someone can help me with this issue.
My computer's been giving me serious trouble all weekend.
I have a home-built system, with an AMD Athon 3000XP processor, 512Mb memory
and a 20Gb hard drive that I built about 6 months ago. All of a sudden it's
started malfunctioning. I put it down to a badly installed piece of
software. However, I got it all back up and running yesterday. Everything
was running smoothly until I rebooted it for the umpteenth time, at which
point I was faced with the dreaded Blue Screen Of Death, bearing the
following message:
STOP: c000026c {unable to Load Device Driver}
\systemroot\System32\DRIVERS\ptilink.sys device driver could not be loaded
Error Status was 0xc000020
If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen,
restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow
these steps:
Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed.
If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer
for any Windows 2000 updates you might need.
If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware
or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing
If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart
your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then
select Safe Mode.
Refer to your Getting Started Manual for more information on
troubleshooting Stop errors.
I can't even boot the machine with Safe Mode. If I try that, I get the
above error messages.
The only three options I have for BIOS memory options are:
1.. CPU Internal Cache
2.. External Cache
3.. CPU L2 Cache ECC Checking
All of the above are enabled. If I try to disable the CPU Internal Cache,
it doesn't even start booting Windows. Setting everything bar the Internal
Cache to Disabled results in the BSOD.
If anyone can advise me as to exactly what might be causing this, I'll be
very very grateful. I'd also be grateful if any replies to this question
could be copied to my Hotmail address ([email protected]).
TIA
