excuse me! im having trouble with my ibm thinkpad, when i
shut it down it doesnt completely shut down, it clears the
desktop and goes to a just plain blue screen and stays
that way, so i have to manually shut it off. also opening
folders is slow now and when im using programs such as aol
and paint shop pro it tends to freeze. i recently made
room on my computer and defragmented the hard drive and
updated and scanned for viruses, but none of this helped.
if anyone has any ideas on the problem your advice and
solutions would be greatly appreciated.
thank you,
Reggie coachman

Can you logon in Safe Mode?

Software Problem:

Have you recently updated this software?

Have you installed another, different piece of software,
after which this problem occurred?

Have you recently made changes to the OS or other inter-
related software?

Hardware Problem:

Have you installed or removed any hardware?

Have you reconfigured existing hardware?

Does some piece of hardware appear to be failing?

Did you have a system crash due to hardware failure prior
to the fault occurring?

Network Problem:

Has your network been reconfigured recently?

If you have problems accessing a server, has it been moved
to a different segment, or had its network
address/supported protocols changed?

Could it be a user account access rights issue?

Has a router / switch been reconfigured?

Is the problem apparent on a number of machines and are
they located in the same segment (could indicate a problem
with a specific network segment)?
